A new trail system just opened in Ludlow, VT called Fletcher Farm Trails and I thought I would check it out. I replaced the rear brake pads on the Cujo and loaded her up on the MINI. It's kind of a bittersweet day as I will be trading in the MINI for a pick up truck and this is the last time I will carry a bike with the car.
It's not an extensive trail system but perfect for a quick hit after work and what it lacks in variety it more than makes up for it with the features on the flow trail.
There appears to be a process to riding here. Climb up the Climb Trail, which is two way, and then descend the Flow and Kid's Half Pipe. The only drawback to that is if your skills are not quite up to riding a difficult trail then you are stuck coming down the Climb Trail again.
The Climb Trail utilizes some existing Vermont Association of Snow Travels (VAST) aka Snowmobilers and then has some off shoots to get around some of the fall lines that the dual track goes up because powered vehicles don't care about fall lines.
There's some good benching
and then there are some rake and ride portions. Hopefully there's plans to remove the duff of all the non benched sections otherwise these parts are going to turn ugly. Then again, they might just ride themselves in.
This section in particular is a fall line on basically turf. I saw a way to get more switch back out of it but the builders probably picked their battles and figured they would come back and address this later. I hope they do.
There's a great view of Okemo from the Power Lines.
After the power lines the trail heads back into the woods and has some really good armorings and a nice bridge.
It's hard to see here but there is a climbing switchback that does a really good job getting up a particularly steep section.
There's a nice BFR aka Glacial Erratic nearby. The could be a good name for the Flow Trail, Glacial Erratic Trail, or I would just call it the BFR Flow Trail.
This section right before the end of the Climb Trail is kind of cool with some natural rolling grade dips.
There was this one feature, a drop between two trees that was pretty hairy and there is a roller next to it. I think it could use a third alternative off to the right, though.
Behind the BFR was this sick roller that QM'ed and then thought the better of it. The transition at the bottom was such that you needed to huck it before from the top of the rock.
The flow trail ends at the Climbing Trail but there is no signage telling you to go one way or the other.
The half pipe trail was great. Reminds me of Sidewinder at Kingdom. I liked it so much that I rode it to more times.
Before my last run down the Half Pipe I was climbing up and took a wrong turn onto another VAST trail that didn't connect back into the Climb Trail and had to turn around. All in all, this is a great a little trail system and I imagine in time will be even better.
