I had a work from home week after Labor Day Weekend and I was back in New Hampshire staying with Ann and working from her hotel room in Hanover. She went to work, early as usual, so I went out for a ride. It was so cold this morning that I borrowed an old pair of ski gloves she happened to have with her.
I rode down to West Leb and then headed east to climb up Hardy Hill and take the back way to Mascoma Lake. I wanted to ride around the west portion of the lake and then come back on the Northern Rail Trail.
The climb turned onto Sunset Rock and from there was a great view of Mt Ascutney to the southwest
and due west you could see Killington and Pico.
The Connecticut River Valley was fogged in and Pico is seen in the center.
Not a bad climb for beautiful summer morning.
I went this way not expecting dirt because RWGPS said it was paved but the descent was not.
The fog was just starting to burn off by the time I got to the lake.
It was really peaceful.
There are some nice homes a long the lake
and some great views of the lake from the bridge.
With the sun burning through the crisp, cool morning was starting to heat up.
I tried to get onto the Rail Trail from Payne Road but the trail down was covered in poison ivy. Some guy let me cut through his yard to get onto the trail. Under the I-89 over pass there was some cool graffiti.
I was hammering down the trail making really good time when I hit a rock and flatted. I changed the tube out and got rolling again but I lost a lot of time and it looked like I was going to miss a meeting that I had planned for 9 AM. I finally rode the Hanover Street pedestrian bridge over I-89 and then climbed back up to the hotel. I made the meeting but I kept my camera off because I wasn't looking very presentable.
