Colchester Causeway Ride

Ann & I headed up to Burlington to ride the Colchester Causeway and it was also the last weekend to take the Local Motion Bike Ferry. Other than riding the causeway and taking the ferry I had no other agenda, except since we were leaving from Switchback Brewing, I was really looking forward to getting a glass of my favorite beer.

It was a brisk and windy autumn day with white caps on Lake Champlain but it the visibility was outstanding.

There was no mistaking the Adirondaks across the lake today.

We rode our gravel bikes today.

Once on the causeway the surface turns to process or pea gravel

and the wind made it a slow go.

Looking east towards the highest mountain in Vermont, Mount Mansfield.

Besides us there were a few other bikes on the causeway and quite a few eBikes.

Finally, we were at the end of the line.

Just needed the ferry to return and take us over to the other end

We queued up and waited for the Ferry.

15 minutes later it pulled into the dock.

Then we loaded up and the ferry took us to the other side of the causeway

It wasn't until we got to the other side that realized that the causeway was built from huge chunks of Marble, probably quarried from the Rutland area.

We had heard there was a farm store a little ways north on South Hero Island.

We didn't go there directly, rather ventured a little east

and then headed back to the main road.

The countryside was amazing with farms lining the roads we were riding.

We rode to Allenholm Farm for Maple Creemees.

Definitely a riders destination.

Then we headed back to the ferry.

What a view of the Adirondaks!

The wind was at our backs and we flew back.
