Kind of ironic that I would find an image of Porky Pig on the day of my son's graduation from The Rochester Institute of Technology. Earlier that morning, before the ceremonies, I headed out on a ride to sample some of the Rail Trails around Henrietta, NY from the Air BnB I was staying at.
It was a blue bird morning as I rode to the trail head.
then I turned west on the Lehigh Valley Trail
rode over some cool trestles
until I hit the intersection with the Genesee Valley Greenway but for all you Foamers the Lehigh actually crossed over the Erie/Lavonia, Avon and Lakeville Railroad (aka Pennsylvania RR) at Wadsworth Junction.
The Lehigh Valley RR crossed over both the Genesee River and Pennsylvania RR on a long deck-truss viaduct (trains ran on top of, rather than through, the truss). The span over the river itself still exists, but the connecting spans were removed after Conrail abandoned the line in the late 1970s.
There's only a few abutments still standing
and the girders from the deck-truss
