Tha, tha, that's all folks

 May 10, 2025

Kind of ironic that I would find an image of Porky Pig on the day of my son's graduation from The Rochester Institute of Technology. Earlier that morning, before the ceremonies, I headed out on a ride to sample some of the Rail Trails around Henrietta, NY from the Air BnB I was staying at.

It was a blue bird morning as I rode to the trail head.

Once on the Lehigh Valley Trail - North Branch I didn't see a single person.

I rode 7 miles to Rochester Junction

then I turned west on the Lehigh Valley Trail

rode over some cool trestles

and through some slop

and some more slop

until I hit the intersection with the Genesee Valley Greenway but for all you Foamers the Lehigh actually crossed over the Erie/Lavonia, Avon and Lakeville Railroad (aka Pennsylvania RR) at Wadsworth Junction.

The Lehigh Valley RR crossed over both the Genesee River and Pennsylvania RR on a long deck-truss viaduct (trains ran on top of, rather than through, the truss). The span over the river itself still exists, but the connecting spans were removed after Conrail abandoned the line in the late 1970s.

There's only a few abutments still standing

and the girders from the deck-truss

Genesee Valley Trail looking south towards the crossing

I turned north onto the Genesee Valley Trail

finally saw some cyclists who were heading the other direction.

Found some Chinese Red Buds lining the trail

that were in bloom.

Crossed over an active line of the Baltimore & Ohio.

I was treated to more straight roads,

old farms that will probably become future subdivisions

and beautiful landscapes.

Then it was time to see my son graduate

So proud of Elliot, who graduated in just 3 years!

While his mother and grandparents took him out to celebrate I hit the Genesee Brewery in downtown Rochester for my favorite beer and some fantastic food.

When I got back to Connecticut I discovered I brought someone home with me.
