I took the Waltly out to explore White River Junction and climb some hills, intent on staying completely on Pavement. Rode down through Dartmouth College and over the Connecticut River into Vermont. It seems Vermont has a lot more dirt roads than New Hampshire so I pieced together a route that I hoped would be completely on pavement.
While riding along RT 5 I found the Gnome House
These things where huge! Easily 5+ feet high.
Leaving RT 5 and turning west on Vermont Route 14 I followed along the White River for a bit until I found this hill that headed north and what a hill it was.
Dothnan Road, a 2 mile, 7.3% climb.
It was a grueling climb but I was hoping there were be scenic vista at the top
Wasn't much but the clouds were telling me I should probably head back to the barn.
I found a little recreational path in White River
but it was closed only after a mile in for bridge construction.
I crossed back over the CT River
into West Leb
and checked out what remained of the Boston & Maine Railroad
Heading back to West Leb on the Mascoma Rail Trail I found these markers indicating the distance to specific areas, this one being 2 miles to White River Junction
and Boston is just a mere 141 miles away.
two miles in and another marker.
I found the ski jump at Storrs Hill. It looked pretty rickety.
There was a neat Local Free Library nearby.
There was this cute little covered bridge over the Mascoma River.
It took the Upper Valley Loop back up to the hospital and then rode back to the hotel.
I finally got that vista I was looking for, from the NH side of the CT River looking at the hill I climbed earlier on the ride.
