West Rutland RAW

 October 27th, 2025

After work on Monday, Ann & I went out for a little mixed surface ride to West Rutland. Since it was nearly Halloween, there were many houses really decked out and this one on Campbell Road really stuck out.

This was our first time riding at night together and we could have been better prepared. Neither of us had helmet lights and while lights on our handle bars helped us see the road having a helmet light really helps your situational awareness, as well, letting cars know that you are a cyclist.

We climbed up Campbell Road and then continued climbing on Quarterline Road and crossed over Route 4.

The sun had already set as we turned onto Boardman Bridge.

As soon as it turns to dirt there is a punchy little climb

The view from the top was amazing

The sun was having a wonderful effect on the clouds to the west

Riding  down the paved portion of Boardman Bridge the clouds got fiery red

We rode the bike path to Clarendon Avenue

and then back on Route 4 using the bike lanes.

We turned back in to Dorr Drive

and then took River Road back to the house

but first had to climb up over the railway yard and it was not a favorite of Ann's
