2024 D2R2 Pre-Game ride

 August 16, 2024

Will and I continued our D2R2 Pre-Game ride tradition by riding to Turner’s Falls and stopping at Element Brewing, which is just off the greenway.

When I got to the campground Friday I had to get in the mood before setting up my tent.

After Will and Zac arrived and got their stuff squared away we headed off on a route that I planned.

Here’s the intended route but there were a few unknowns

The first of which was whether Stage Road actually went through or not. Fortunately, the gate wasn’t locked and there was nothing posted so to me that meant fair game.

It wasn’t as graveled as I had wished but more of a farmer’s tract. It was rideable and got us to where I wanted to go, which was the back side of Sugar Loaf Mountain.

Will had no issues

And we found some gravel on the other side, albeit someone’s driveway.

There were some cows on the other side.

Heading south to cross over the Connecticut River we got an interesting view of the backside of Sugarloaf Mountain.

It’s on the bucket list

There’s a cool little tower on top, too.

We crossed over the Connecticut River

and turned north on RT 47 towards Turners Falls

We followed RT 47 to Falls Road

but Falls Road wasn’t dirt. We stopped at the road’s namesake

The road became Meadow Road and it was paved, too.

Canada wildfires were in full effect

which made it cool on what was supposed to be a warm day

Old Greenfield Road crosses over the railroad tracks

and then there’s this cool house

We got on the Greenway

which took us straight to the brewery

when we got back on the bikes it was getting dark

and I was the only one with a light.

The near full moon made it easy to see where we were going.

Stopped at the tent so Will could get something to eat

Back at the camp we drank more beer and hung out with our D2R2 crew
