Cold as OOF

As the ski season winds down and I found myself staying in Newtown this weekend I joined the Newtown Lunartics for their weekly ride to OOF (Ovens of France) from Sandy Hook to Woodbury and back.

Since I was staying nearby, I rode to meet everyone in Sandy Hook Center and it was a lot colder than I anticipated and I should have at least have worn my toe covers. At the last minute I threw on a vest under my cycling jacket that kept me just warm enough. I was the only one in bib shorts.

We had a big crew this morning and there were some new additions like Dave Irving who has ridden with us before and a guy named John from Southbury.

Since it was supposed to rain later this morning we opted for the quickest way to OOF, which is what we call the Flat Route, that excludes climbing up West Purchase Brook and we take Swamp Hollow to RT 172 to Transylvania Road and then into Woodbury.

With the construction at the end of Transylvania Road we had to detour using Bear Hill Road.

As we rode past Rob Zombie's house the Farmall Tractor that has been out in front of his property for years appears to have been taken out by a drunk driver. Apparently this happened in January.

Got to Ovens of France and the place was packed

But we got the round table

I tried something new, a spinach and cheese croissant

We ran the gauntlet on the way back and returned to Sandy Hook Center before the rain was supposed to start and never really started.
