Sherburne Gap Loop

 Oct 31, 2024

I took a few days off from work to be with Ann but today she had to work so I decided to ride a 54 mile loop starting in Rutland, climbing Sherburne pass in Killington, ride Rt 100 to Ludlow, climb up Rt 103 to  Mount Holly, and then back to Rutland.

I took Rt 4 and the 7.5 mile climb started just past the Rutland Home Depot.

I couldn't have picked a better day

Along the way I passed the iconic Maple Sugar & Vermont Spice breakfast house in Mendon

Looking up towards Pico Mountain

Entering the town of Killington still on the climb

Looking at Pico Mountain this morning and the top of the pass is in sight

Deer Leap

Deer Leap overlooks The Inn at Long Trail

After a wicked descent the route flattens out in the Outtauquechee River Valley

Stopped at Dream Maker Bakers for breakfast

What a meal, an everything bagel with bacon, egg and cheese!

Killington's Sky Ship

Wide open road on Rt 100

Rolling by Woodward Reservoir where Ann and I kayaked this summer

Green Mountain Sugar House, home of the best Maple Creemee in Vermont

Okemo

Branch Brook

Turning onto Rt 103 and the climb to Mt Holly

The next climb is a two step to Mt Holly

A little hold over fall color during Vermont's Stick Season.

Roadside, Halloween decorations

Haven't tried it yet but it sounds squeeling good.

Top of the climb

Vermont Railway Bridge

Heading down into the Marble Valley and looking at the Taconic Mountain Range.

The Marble Valley is a historic region in southwestern Vermont stretching from Middlebury down to Dorset, known for its deep marble deposits and central role in the American stone industry.

The final leg, Killington Avenue in Rutland.
