Walls of Jericho

May 4th, 2024

Headed up to Burlington Saturday because Ann’s youngest had a track meet and her oldest daughter need to move a few things down from UVM now that the semester was over. Ann suggested I bring my bike, which I did and I headed out for a ride.  First, I rode down to the shores of Lake Champlain.

I rode over to Battery Park to get a nice view of Lake Champlain

Then climbed back up towards UVM

Continuing my eastward trajectory on Mountain View Road you can see why they call it that with the view of Mount Mansfield

as well as Camel’s Hump.

And it seems to go on for ever.

Had to cross over the Winooski River (originally named he Onion River) to start the climb up to Jericho.

On the way there I passed numerous people on gravel bikes coming from West Bolton is my guess.

Then I was in Jericho. What drove me to ride here is the name of the town was used in a Netflix Series called Wednesday Addams, which was used as a fictious town near the school that she was attending. Walls of Jericho also happens to the name of a Heavy Metal Band that I have listened too.

According the interwebs "Snowflake" Bently is the most noteable person from Jericho.  However, one thing that I also discovered is that 57% of the town roads are gravel. I am going to have to plan a gravel ride here in the future. Also guess that's why I saw quite a few people on gravel bikes.

On the outskirts of town Mr Hanky came a calling

Then began a nearly 14 mile descent back towards Burlington with some interesting sights along the way

including Old Red Mill

and Fort Ethan Allen Parade Ground

Had to cross back over the Winooski River

and one last climb of a mile and a max grade of 14% back up to UVM.
