After yesterday's gravel ride I wanted to take it easy today so I rode over to Pine Hill Park. Since it was Thursday, I brought my lights, hoping to meet up with the Down Valley Bikes Thursday Night Ride but when I got there they weren't in the lot. Not sure if I got there too early or too late.
Riding up Svelte Tiger and just before the end of the trail I noticed the top of a soda can at the base of a tree.
Some litterbug was too lazy to take the can back with them. Reminds of people who leave their dog poop bags, saying they will come back and get it when the return but never do. There should be a term for these people ... like what I found on the internet: Schrödinger’s Litterer - Someone who exists in a state of simultaneously being a litterer and a cleaner, right up until the moment they pass by the trash on their way back and leave it there. Unfortunately, that term might be too cerebral for most.
On the overlook trail I saw signs of recent improvements like filling the trail in with mineral soil to harden the trail bed and covered with leaves. People always complain about leaves on the trail and think they need to be blown off. However, contrary to popular belief they are good for the trail because they help prevent erosion.
It got really dark so I put on my new helmet light, a Lenzyne 1000. Up until this point I have only been using it for night road rides with Ann but I decided to try it in the woods. It was great for a couple of minutes until it lightened up again. Must have been a passing cloud.
I rode back through town and just caught the Ethan Allen heading south on it's way to NYC. It was then that I realized one of the spokes on my rear wheel was broken. This makes the second spoke on this wheel to break up here.
