Riding with Studs

Had to wait until after lunch to head over to Pine Hill today because I wasn't really excited to ride when it was 10 degrees.  I got my tire pressure dialed in and my new frame bag secured. Loaded the bike in the truck and drove over to the park. I wore my hunting jacket, a Columbia Wind Stopper Fleece with zip pits. This used to be my go to winter riding jacket and I brought it up to Rutland to give it a try.  Once again, I went with a short sleeved base layer, long sleeved thermal shirt, and a thin long sleeved riding jersey and I was sweating while climbing up Pond Hill Road today.

Trails weren't groomed yet after the latest snow to fall on Rutland earlier in the week but enough people had ridden, walked and snowshoed earlier to make the woods roads rideable. I did try at first to ride up Furlough but there was only one track in the snow and it was tough to ride it without dishing out so I turned around and headed up Pond Road.

I wouldn't say it was a Napoleon's Death March but it was close.  I probably could have gotten away without studs today but they definitely made a huge difference. I took a few breaks along the way.

I rode up to Pond View for a little Photo Op

The REI frame bag was perfect

and these tires were rocking!

While riding up to the Pond I met up with another guy on a fat bike and he introduced himself as Joel. We exchanged numbers and he told me about a fat bike group ride that takes place in the spring at Chittenden Reservoir on the Snowmobile Trails that I should check out.

On my way back down, I rode Furlough and it was a total blast!
Can't wait for the next ride!
